All about Muesli

Muesli was introduced around 1900 by Bircher-Benner for patients in his hospital, it was used as diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables was an essential part of therapy. Muesli is a type of ready-to-eat breakfast cereal. It is made with a combination of oats, wheat flakes, nuts, seeds etc. Muesli can be mixed with milk, sweetened yogurt, fruit juice and eaten.You can also add fresh fruits in Muesli if you wish to. 
Muesli is available in a packaged dry form or it can be made fresh also. The name 'Muesli' comes from a Swiss-German word which means 'mixture

Packaged Muesli

Packaged muesli is a mixture of oats with pieces of dried fruits, nuts, and essential seeds etc. It may also contain sugar, honey or natural fruit sugar and other flavors. It can be stored for many months.



Fresh Muesli 

Fresh Muesli is prepared using freshly rolled oats or whole grain oats after having soaked them in water or fruit juice. It can also contain dry fruits, sugar, honey, essential seeds, etc

Usage of Muesli

Muesli is popular used as a breakfast cereal. It can be used in morning drinks, shakes and breakfast also. You may also use it as a topping on yogurt, desserts, milk shakes, etc. It can be added to muffins, cakes, salads, cookies for extra healthy crunch. 
Chose a package with maximum rolled oat or oat flakes content, they are very healthy. Muesli must be stored in airtight container to maintain its freshness. Check for the expiry date of package before purchasing.

Its benefits are similar as compared to oats only the ones loaded with flavorings and sugar may not be in your favor. But you an chose from a wide variety that is available in market these days.
